Is the US trying to lead a World Order with trade?
The United
States has an interest in trade to create a freer and more prosperous world,
which in turn helps spread US ideals. Our country has the highest GDP.
We are extremely influential when it comes to trade and globalization.
Countries will often abide by certain US standards to trade with us because our
country is such a powerful country. With this being said though, I believe that
the original interest is to create a freer and more prosperous world.
The US could not be a super power if we were only trying to led a world
order. We trade with other countries to not only benefit our own citizens, but
trade with other countries helps their citizens as well. Several poorer,
developing countries find economic boosts when they open up their boarders to
trade. With this being said, trade is only successful in stable governments,
which often are democratic regimes. Many democracies are influenced by the US,
arguably one of the most stable democracies, if not countries, in the world.
Our intentions to trade with these countries was to benefit the producer and
the consumer to help people in developing countries, but what often follows is
the formation of a democratic government, if not already in place.
Furthermore, if our main goal was to produce a US led world order, China
would not be one of our leading trade partners. China is a communist country,
yet they are not influenced by our democratic ideals. We are an interconnected
society where products are not the only thing traded with each other. Ideas and
ideals are traded, whether it be intentional or not. I believe the US
unintentionally is trading ideas when we are trading products, that it is just
natural that less powerful and influential countries will follow suit with the
US with hopes they will be prosperous like the US.
I don't think countries adopting US ideals is necessarily a US led world order. As mentioned earlier, if this were the case, China wouldn't be our second biggest trade partner. Not only this, but communist countries face pressures from other democratic countries to have a democratic society, it is not only the US.
